Polish Picking Problems

G’Day from down under Miss G :frow Welcome!

As you have already received some great responses, I will just add that I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Thanks Everyone. I'm going to try all your suggestions and see if something works. My chickens seem to think this is part of grooming because it is between roo and his hens. He calls them to eat something and in the process they taste of his feathers and he seems to tolerate it for what he gets in return. They free range during the day but I think most of the ( I'm going to call it "Plucking") is happening on the roost. I've been separating him at night to see if that helps.

Welcome to BYC. If protein levels are at appropriate levels in their feed, boredom is generally the cause of crest pecking/plucking. I think the key word is your introduction was 'confined'.
I have suspected and improved their feed but haven't had time for it to take effect yet. I am also letting them out every day. I was only keeping them up for their own safety from predators.
