Maybe I think TWH genetics are easier cause you have such a small limit on colors and markings.

I have been hatching silkies for 2 1/2 days now..don't know why they are being so slow..but got a surprise. Took a few quails eggs from a man to try (knowing they need 70%H) hatching...stuck the 4 in the corner of the bator at LD. Woke up and looked in bator. I see some little tiny thing pop out from under a chick. A QUAIL??? Never would have dreamed it!

After my chicks hatched out I discovered my roos were sneaky and so I now have 3 polish EE cross and 1 Production Red Polish cross. I'm guessing I'm not the only one this has happened to. So my question is can I still sex them by the shape of their crest feathers? They are all different sizes so I don't think size will help. I also have a cornish who now looks like she is starting to get crest feathers after 5 weeks so she just may be a cross too.

My beloved Polish Roo, Bobblehead, has been getting the feathers plucked out of the back of his head all winter now. I have tried everything (blu kote, Rooster Booster, trimming the feathers to help him have a little more peripheral vision to defend himself). Now he has a purplish blue colored (should be white) mullet. But as I don't have anywhere to move him, and I'm SO sad, we have to find a new home for the best rooster EVER!

Its probably just because he can't really see very well that he is so friendly, but he comes when I call him, follows me round clucking happily. I can pick him up and rock him like a little baby and put him to sleep. He loves having his waddles rubbed and purrs. He lets me do whatever I want to him , and hardly ever tries to escape. I'm REALLY going to miss him (not the crowing part) and I just hope that I have chosen good people to give him to. They are picking him up this weekend and I know I'm going to cry.

I've seen way too many Black Beauty movies to trust other people to love and take care of him (plucked head feathers aside) the way I do. I'm so worried he will be unhappy or not well cared for.

I am getting a crele cockeral, and crele hen to go with my silver laced polish cockeral and hens, I am wondering what colours I would get if I with the mix I had.. I have had some feedback from a previous post, and some ideas from searching on the net

Crele cockeral x black hen = cuckoo hen/crele cockeral
crele cockeral x crele hen = crele hen/gold cockeral
crele cockeral x chamois hen= mostly white with some gold lacing cockerals, and hens

are the above correct???

What would I get...

Crele cockeral x silver laced hen??
and would I get the same if the cockeral was silver laced and hen crele??
Silver laced cockeral x black hen??
Silver laced cockeral x Chamois hen??

Many thanks.. I dont think I will ever understand these colour genetics lol

Here's a couple of pictures of my buddy, Bobblehead. notice the rockin' purple mullet with the nice bald spot in the middle. Poor guy!

Here he is playing cabbage tetherball with his ladies. They just can't resist his luscious head feathers.... to EAT!

He looks just like my Al, down to the bald head and purple feathers! He is just as sweet as you describe Bobblehead and gets picked on by the hens. I don't think I've had another chicken spend so much time in the basement with one injury after another which might account for how friendly he is. I'm sorry you aren't able to keep him. I've been teary rehoming a couple of roosters even though they weren't my favorites.

And he's such a beautiful boy, aside from that head! He's very healthy and takes good care of his ladies (when he can find them). They often wander off before he knows what is happening and then frantically runs around trying to find them again. He's just such a funny character!
