They will eventually be bigger than that when the birds are full grown and feathered out, but the crests won't be as big as some you see online.

SL x Mottled eh? Mottled Houdan? I see five toes there. . . I've got some GL x Mottled Houdan myself. Chicks turned out solid black though, unlike yours. That makes your chicks to be female then. . . As they're sex linked.

Hi! The chicks were labeled as Golden Lace at the feed store, so I don't really know what they are mixed with, but am sure that a mix is very likely. Glad to hear there is a good chance they are female. We weren't planning to show them or anything, DD just thought they were very cute with their "wild hair", so a huge crest isn't a must! I have read that some with bigger crests have can limited vision and so require a little extra help. In our chicken world, maybe this smaller crest may be a blessing! I am glad she wanted one. They have turned out to have the sweetest little personalities! Sunflower is so out going and always runs to greet whom ever stops by the brooder. Little Marigold is more shy, but loves to snuggle. Anyway, we are hoping that one at least remains female. Thanks for sharing your experience! Oh, they only have 4 toes, does that mean something, too? Thanks again!

Ah, thought I saw a 5th toe on one of them. Well, then they're just hatchery Gold Laced Polish.

I read your post wrong, thought you meant the parents were SL and mottled, which made sense seeing as to how much black these chicks have on their bodies.

I posted a thread with a few questions I had about Polish, I thought I could also try the Polish thread....where Polish people dwell.
My questions are,

1) What has been your positive and negative experiences of Polish bantam or standard?
2) Egg laying. Have you Polish been large egg layers? Or have they performed pittyful?
3) Consumption of feed. This ranges from owner to owner, though are your Polish scoffers or suitable to eat at the Queen's table?
4) Noisiness. How have their (your Polish) noise levels?
5) Personality. Docile and gentle or skittish and aggressive? What have you experienced with your birds?
6) Health. How have your Polish handled mites, fleas, molt, or any other disease that you have experienced?
7) Confinement. Do your Polish handle confinement well?

Finally. Moved the 5 incubator Polish outside and gave them a broody silkie mom. It took a few hours for them to let their instinct take over and snuggle under her. She was very patient and kept following them and sitting down waiting, and making this "come here" noise. Today I moved them to a pen , then got the other five chickes with their silkie mom, now they are all together , 10 Polish chicks and 2 moms. Very cute!

When do we see pictures ?

I forgot to say that I just started incubating my eggs from Atichick . Here is hoping that I do it right as far as humidity etc. Georgia eggs in the desert, well we will see.

Polish color genetics...

Bear with me...Ive bred horses (Appaloosas primarily-not a whole lot of color guarantees there ) for 20 years...and chicken color genetics has not clicked with me yet. I am curious what you would get if you crossed a golden laced with a silver laced? which is dominant? I am assuming it doesnt matter which parent is which color with this combo?
