Did you not take the smooth one or was it not there anymore?

Not sure if there was one at that time?? If so someone else beat me to it! I got the only two I saw but I think there may have been more to hatch out more recently. I went and picked mine up a couple weeks or so ago. I have some GL I can put them with but I had not intended to breed them. I had intended to get someone's culls and let them live out here but there really aren't many since there are so few yet. Now I am not sure what I should do. I just didn't want to deal with the whole hatching and problems stuff.

Ok, I must be thinking of the new ones. There were 2 frizzles and a smooth chick when I was there last week. You can't have these and not breed them if you have GL to outcross them to! There are too few around not to use them. I understand if you don't want to hassle with hatching or breeding, but there are plenty of people that would gladly buy the eggs to help get new blood and further the breed.

So that is what I am thinking now too. Maybe since we are somewhat close we could work together. Problem is, I know ABSOLUTELY nothing about it. I have two hens and one rooster GL. I don't even know what quality they are. The hens lay but he hasn't gotten into the swing of things yet.

How close to her skin do I cut her feathers? Thanks

Make sure you don't have any blood feathers if you're going to cut her crest back at this age. Look closely at the feathers to be sure there is no blood vessel. If you cut one of those by mistake, you'll have to pull it out to stop it bleeding and neither of you will enjoy it. I just tape mine up so they can see- try electrical or white medical tape. "Steve" the buff-laced has too big a comb, but is otherwise not too bad. I always enjoy seeing Polish used in showmanship.

My rooster Mario is a pretty good quality chicken so we want to get 2 show quality girls. How much would it cost to get 2 show quality white crested black polish hens?

here is my little tolblunt

I'm going to need some good gold laced to cross with if any body knows a source.

Aww, frizzles are so cute!

I'm getting more Polish from our local farm store but I'm worried about their quality. I was going to get them from a breeder in texas but he backed out and can't ship.

Now I'm freaking out since I can't find any quality ones xD Do you think our local farm store (Dallas Greens) is getting them from a good hatchery etc.? Or if you have any quality Polish chicks, don't be afraid to email when I'll make a deal xD

Also, what is my chance of getting a hen? I'm ordering in St. Run and if I order two of each, Silver Laced, Golden Laced, and Buff Laced is it like a 1:6 ? I don't want a roo and if I do get one, I only want ONE xD No fighting.

No, they will not be of good quality. They'll be average hatchery Polish, ranging from skinny to decent body, terribly small or ugly crest to okay, terribly squirreled tail to okay, poor to above normal egg production, etc. And some hatcheries have pretty weak strains too. If you're not up for showing, breeding for preservation, etc, it shouldn't matter though. I don't show my Polish, but I still like quality because I want POLISH, not "crested chickens that lay white eggs"
