i would wait till shes fully healed before putting her back in there, just my opinion. my polish gets picked on once in a while, i think maybe the other breeds think their crest feathers are worms? lol, idk that's why i built more coops and pens to separate my breeds

If you can tape up her head with a strong duct tape they usually do fine, or you can make a cottonball cap by making a flour/water paste and "gluing" a cottonball to her head with that. (I usually have to hold them for quite a while until it's completely dry.) That said, Polish do not generally do well with non-crested breeds. There are exceptions, of course, my Polish do fine with the little seramas or my silkies- but I do have to tape up crests if they start being the least bit picked.

I find it really interesting - how many folks say their Polish are picked on a lot. I have 7 Polish, and NONE of them have been picked on more than any of the non Polish. In all, I have about 35 chickens. My #1 Roo is a huge BLRW, and he doesn't let any of the others fight or get picked on. And, in all fairness, I have to say, the Polish tend to be a bit more aggressive to the others than the other way round. Cheeky little beggars!

When mine were mixed a couple of the boys got a little picked on so I was very excited when their hen house and run was ready to move them in. They've been in there for about a week and it looked like things were improving.....then my grandsons came over and we went out to visit the chickens. Things were fine but my oldest grandsons mentioned that "Mr T", the Polish chick that turned into a Polish/Silke mix roo was pecking on the heads of some of the other ones. Two hours later we went back out and one had a total bald spot and it was bleeding! I remembered cmsdvm recommending taping up the crest. I tried with vet tape (because it was handy) but it wouldn't stay on so I decided that I would move the offender out of the Polish pen (he was already on Craigslist so I was counting on him being gone soon) and it had only been a week so I figured he'd go back to his free ranging days and to the other coop, or at least just hang on the other side of the wire fence. The two hen houses are only about 20 feet apart and the run areas are connected, only separated by the hardware cloth wall......well, by that afternoon he was gone.....can't find him anywhere????? I can't imagine where he disappeared to in the middle of the day? My EE Roo is very good about alerting to any hawks and I doubt he went far from his group which is well protected and covered by trees where he would have tried to get in.

We set the have-a-heart trap last night and came up empty...

On the good side....it was a very peaceful morning. Just a few normal crowing from my EE roo and one or two from the Polish boys. And the head of the poor guy that got pecked bald is already looking better and nobody else is after him. Did I miss anyone suggesting treating it? Or will it heal on it's own. The others who had some missing spots look better everyday but this guy got hit hard!

Interesting that I did find one of my EE roo's long tail feathers on the ground, so I'm thinking he may have tried to fight something off. Not a feather from the Polish/Silke, so I'm guessing something grabbed him.....I had let them out earlier then normal due to all the fuss that morning....guess he got punished just a bit more then I had meant to.....

Darklingstorm, hope your little one is feeling better.

Bigdaddysmom- I had a surplus of roos one year...thought one had been taken, he just moved on

. He was wandering around a neighbors property looking for his own girls I guess, there was an acre of woods, not sure how he survived.... He was picked on and just left. I caught him and rehomed him as he was such a sweetie. Maybe he just decided to go look for some girls

eta- my roo dropped feathers all the time, I would think something happened to him only to find him happy and alive...
