We just got this guy or gal new. Its hard to tell about the shape of his top feathers since he/she is a frizzle. I am fine with it either way. Opinions?

Then here is my other Polish. Definitely a she i believe. She has purple in her feathers because she got pecked and I am trying to stop it.

What opinion are you asking for with your frizzle? I can't tell if it is a boy or girl. I raise frizzles and if you go on my site you can see some of mine. I only raise white. The girl at the bottom is a girl. She is cute! What do you mean that she has purple in the feathers? Are you talking about the feathers on her crest? If you pluck them out enough times they will eventually come in white.

They are all offspring out of someones Black crested white polish lines. I have them, the BCW, and hatch everyone of those colors you have posted there out of mine too from time to time. TRUE, they arent a recognized or true breeding color, but I guarantee you thats where they came from, got too many of them over the years to think otherwise. They dont really have a color name, just make cool looking polish.

Thank you so much for your post. That really explains a lot. Do you have any pictures of the birds you have hatched? I would love to compare and see how yours turned out. I am really excited about these chicks and can't wait to see how they mature. I think the super strange one ( the first one pictured above ) is going to end up being a little hen. Now we have to find a nice Roo to go with her!

I dont think I do right off on these odd ball colors, I'll have to look and see. We always just raise those up and either give them away or free range them. The top one, they look exactly like that, buff/gold color with black crest, the red at the bottom, pretty much stays that exact color too, they are very pretty, just an off color for the polish. I've never tried breeding them to see what they will produce, my guess is just more odd ball colors. Try it and let us know what happens!! All of my goldish black crested ones were always hens, dont know if it is sex linked or just coincidence??

Oh. I meant that in the picture you can see purple feathers because i put some dye stuff to try to stop the pecking.

I am curious if anyone has a guess on the Frizzles sex. I think he is a watch and wait kind of bird.

I do best sexing my Polish at age 2-7 days. I am never wrong on a male, though sometimes a lovely male will fool me into thinking he's a she. Once they start to feather in, it's much harder to tell until after 5-6 weeks or so when one can really see the wattles. Female chicks have a very round crest set low, the male chicks are set farther back and are oblong. I should take some pictures sometime, the difference is pretty obvious. It does drive me crazy though, say if I hatch 7 males and have no female to compare to- then it's harder to be sure.
