Ohh I DO Know what you are saying !!!! But it just struck my funny bone as I am so lazy about processing . It is hard work as far as I am concerned but yeah they do make nice soups and dumpling stew etc. BUT RIGHT AWAY when there is a dandy picture of him and the pullet standing right there just was funny to me.

Mine are meatier than the average RIR and BR, so, it depends on lineage. I'd eat mine if I needed to, but, I never do. If anything I sell extras, which make more worth in money than in food.

Greetings, I just picked up my first polish birds, both are roo's...so much for the pullets. (If your in Maine and have a extra pullet, I'd love to trade a roo or buy)

I'm curious to hear how the roosters are. I know Cochins are sweet (usually), RIR are mean and I had a cream Brabanter who wanted to learn some aggressive moves and he was sent packing to another farm. Curious on everyone's take on this breed. Thank you!

Just read as previously said in this, umm, long thread.

Just like Rhode Island Reds, it depends on lineage. I've never met a mean non-hatchery based Polish, however hatchery or poorly backyard bred Polish can indeed and have been known to be aggressive. (Since temperament is not something the owner had in mind) Among my flock, all my Polish, girls or boys, are extremely friendly. Just as heritage Rhode Island Reds are very laid back birds.

Thank you, and I do agree with lineage and of course your interpretation of how you expect a bird to behave, or tolerate. RIR are intimidating to me, just as Brahmas. I am liking these Polish buddies, they are funny.

I am posting this here because of all the experience...this afternoon one of our Polish chickens had his head pecked of feathers. He was a tiny bit bloody - he was fine this morning but it rained and I am afraid that is when it happened. Some of his feathers must have parted back. He is only 14 weeks old, and has been sparring a bit with another chicken we think may be a rooster.

I am going to get some blue kote, and now have him in a dog carrier. When I got him, he was happily eating watermelon with everyone else. But the bald head was a bit creepy looking. I blew his feathers dry. How soon can I reintroduce him?

My Polish roos I've had were always my favorites. They didn't even mind being picked up and hugged.

I let the roos choose themselves. If they are stupid, they go. If they get along fine. The last 2 Polish roos I had, well neither one did anything stupid, so they both ended up staying. They were the best.
