I know these guys have changed sexes at least a million times by now! Haha.

I don't know how old they are. They don't even have all of their feathers in on their necks. I'm just so impatient. They might be four weeks to five weeks old. I already put the red on craigslist though, that ones a boy for certain!

My buffs are the only ones who have combs. None of my WC or Tolbunts do.

Hmmmm, this is a WCB. Also I've been wanting to ask what color you call the Polish in your avatar? I have one that looks exactly like that.

She is a WC Cuckoo. She no longer lives with us, but lives with another BYC member. I just love that pic so much I don't have the heart to change my avatar.

Dang! How many do you lose?

About 25 in Polish alone this summer(Along with 1 Turken hen, 6 Ameraucanas & I couldn't even tell you how many of the juvies I was growing up) They like my Polish the best, and were even taking them out of their old pen for a quick lunch because I crated them at night when I started having an issue. Which is why they are in the pen they are in now.

I'd been fine with them in the pen I moved them to last month, but last night they took another pullets head, & I have my sweet little WC Blue with a raw back of the neck & a broken beak (still was eatting though, but don't know if she will make it).

I have 3 left out of the 25 Polish chicks I had shipped to me at the beginning of March which includes broken beak.

After have 4 coons shot I thought that would be the end of it, but I guess they told their friends before we got them.

Last year I only lost 1, so I don't know what is up this year.

I HATE COONS!!!!

I hate em too. Have you tried electric fencing around your pens? It has worked for me.

Look around for the den, it won't likely be far and close up the holes. We found two here one behind the chicken pens and one on the side hill. We only had to trap and kill one and it all stopped. Raccoons are territorial. It did get almost all my birds though before we got it trapped.

$$$ or lack of......Most of my chickens free range in different areas of the yard during the day, so I would need to do the whole yard plus all the individual pens.

The dog now basicly keeps them out of the back yard since she has aquired her "chicken guard" status, so now it is just the front I have to worry about. The Polish will just have to get crated for a night or two until I can play the move the cages & chickens game again.

I'm backed by wooded conservation land, so there is quite an area for them to be. Have shot four in the last month, and it was quiet for a couple of weeks, but they seem to be back. I'll have to move the trap tonight to see if I can trick one into it.
