Welcome to the club!

show us some pics of those "straight runs" and I gurantee we can sex them for you :)

Hmm, update.
Gor us two smooth white bantie hens, one frizzle roo, so far he has produced 3 frizzles and 1 smooth.

Also got a new standard white crested black roo to breed with our girls. So far we have 5 new babies. And ... somehow, one of those babies turned out different. Its kind of lavendar/self blue?
He is gorgeous!
But my tab isnt letting me post pics right now.

We're still looking for a couple hens for our too, buuuut in the meantime we've learned that WVBlack polish genes are very strong. We hatch 20 babies from several different laying hens. All babies turned out black with a tiny bit of tufting on their heads

Well, I had my first feather trimming experience yesterday evening and I feel terrible about it because OMG look at this hatchet job I had to do! So, background story: something happened Tuesday night/Wednesday early morning before I got out to the coop that had my rooster bleeding from the comb and Nausicaa's (pictured above) crest matted together like it was frozen. I assumed it was frostbite on him and the below freezing temps + wet feathers on her. Until later in the day when I noticed that her crest hadn't defrosted and dried out. Turned out, something had basically glued her feathers together. Right now, I'm thinking there was an egg in the coop at some point and everyone went haywire over it and my littlest hen got the biggest beating. Whatever it was, it wouldn't wash out and I had to cut it out. I feel so bad for her! I am a terrible hairdresser and should never be allowed near scissors again.

But at least it's off her head now and the other can stop trying to peck it out (that's why the front is so short). Trimming wasn't that bad of an experience as I thought it would be, but I'll definitely be letting these ladies go natural from now on unless something like this comes up again.

I have trimmed my polish and even my faverolles in order to allow them to see better. For me their livelihood is more important than how they look to me. Im pretty sure the flock doesnt mind a bad hair day!

I ordered some white crested black polish from there and they'll be here next week. But I really want to know how they look.
