Hello,

Wanted to see if you guys thought this is a hen or rooster? About three months old now. Thanks for the help.

I'm thinking roo, he is a cutie.

We have had a lot of problems with our white crested blacks this year. Lost quite a few. But we know why and we are fixing that. Right now I am impressed with the crest length this boy is growing out to be. Considering his grandpa I believe has 11 inches!
I will also display his father as well. The rooster we bought at the Ohio National last fall. I was so hoping we could show everyone this year :/ darn flu.

sadly, the flu will likely not go away. We will probably end up with more laws eventually on how to stay flu safe.
Ill post them in the next post.

You don't crest sex at day old chicks??? Beautiful rooster!!! I wish my SL was frizzled. Lol!

No I tend not to go on it as I've proved wrong too many times :he
Had some lovely chicks that I thought were pullets with very round crests when they hatched only for them to be boys and start crowing. Also vice versa with smaller more oblong crests.

For white crested birds its a must. It is prefered by judges that the bird have little to no coloration in the crest. Once I am finished plucking him he will only have a few black feathers in the front center of his crest.
Here is a picture of his dad After and before I plucked him.

Excuse the heart shape of his crest. The middle is still filling in.

He also needs to be plucked. But they are still blood feathers. I dont like to pull those out.

You pull their feathers??? Out of curiosity...why?

Do you do it for show purposes? So the white and the black are more defined?

So here is my white crested black polish "fluffy". I have been hoping and praying this is a pullet but these waddles have me worried..... But no comb and Rounder head feathers keeps me holding on ...
