Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, that gives me hope about our black polish Marley. How did you transport them to the introductory coop?

I have a golden laced polish named Marley! :)

My babies are just about 4 weeks now. My husband and I built an 8 x 8 enclosure inside of the large run for the little ones to live in for the next couple weeks. When they're about 8 weeks old, I'll integrate them into the big pen. The time they spend side by side will help them get used to each other. Good luck with yours.

What ever you do, do not put two unrelated boys together unsupervised. I prefer to keep them separate.

You have to watch for neighborhood cats as well. I had one kill 3 of my polish. :(

That's terrible! So sorry, I am sure you were devastated! We have not seen any cats nearby in this neighborhood, but we have raccoons, hawks, coyotes and fox to name a few. Everyone has pretty much convinced me to stick with our run for predator safety.

We just put them in a small dog crate. We built a pen in the coop for introductions but with the polish being so much smaller. We are actually in the process of building a second smaller coop where they can be away from the big birds. Our polish hen is a real bully. I'm afraid if she went with the big chickens they would hurt her. :(

Great idea about the dog crate! We have one that we could use. I like the idea of introducing them slowly like that. I can't wait to see them get to peck and scratch in the real ground and find their own treats! My polish ones are the best diggers out of them all! So fun to watch!

I was devastated. I had made a small introduction pen on the outside of the coop but butted up with it. I thought they were safe but the cats got them through the smallest hole in the fence. I felt so guilty at the time. After that we made the introduction pen inside the coop. No problems since. I love watching them when they first go outside too. They are adorable when they take their dirt baths lol.. :)

Okay. My Polish babies are 4 weeks old now (oh, my gosh, really?) I've read that you can tell by looking at the wattle area if they are a boy or a girl. I'd love it if someone can tell me if any of them are showing signs of maybe being a boy. There is one that I have my fingers crossed about.

< Ringo, darkest buff laced

< Star, buff laced

< Cher, lightest buff laced

< Marley, golden laced -heavy gold on back

< Bee Gee, splash

< Ozzie, golden laced -heavy black on back

What darlings! I especially think Ozzie is a great...a face only a mama hen and mama human would love!

LOL. Yeah, poor Ozzie... When the crest fuzz started to grow into feathers, all the other babies pecked out Ozzie and Marley's crest fuzz that was stuck to the ends of the new feather shafts. They were still in the brooder and were getting bored. Those two looked so pitiful. I put them out next to the big-bird coop at 3 weeks old and the others lost all interest in Marley and Ozzie's crests.

I must say, at this age they are rather ugly. LOL But SO CUTE too.

I am new at this too so can't really help with gender, but they are all super cute and look like so much fun!

They all look like pullets to me. Bee gee does look a little suspicious though. I would keep an eye on that one lol by 6 weeks you will know for sure. :)

I so hope you are right. You and I are both thinking the same thing about Bee Gee, so I'll keep an eye on that one and update in a couple weeks. :D Thank you for your answer.
