Funny enough I just discovered they came from another BYC'er...I was gonna buy a hen from Raven 1 and discovered she had them before me. Their eggs will be hatching this weekend. 90% fertilization rate. 10 eggs were put in & 9 are fully developed and should be piping the next few days. I will gladly sell you fertile eggs as soon as these hatch and I can verify their health.

So i heard polish are easy for predators to catch and my coop has a huge run about 200 ft in perimeter but without a roof because were in the woods l. I was wondering if you guys let your polish out of if i should leave her in the 10x10 dog pen permanently because i don't want to loose her since shes a good layer, expensive, and over all a cool hen. Any suggestions ?

I have had four Polish, so they aren't my main breed, even though they are a favorite. I have let them all free range without any fence all day, every day. Two I raised from chicks (GL and Splash) and the other two I bought when they were about two years old (Black and BL). Buff and Ravyne (the black) were very skittish around people, so I had to sell them. The Splash ended up being a cockerel, and I sold him. I now just have my GL, and she has free ranged with my other 27 chickens since March, and I haven't had a single casualty. The only reason I think I've had such great luck with her not getting eaten is she has so many other chickens to take cues from, and she knows when to run for cover. Her hat is so large that she can't see very well (obviously) so sometimes she gets "lost" in the yard, and she doesn't know where to go to get back to cover, so she uses her hearing. I'll stand out and "bock" at her as a rooster would call his flock, and she runs straight for me and finds her flock since they run towards me too. She doesn't normally stray far. It only happens when something (like the mower) freaks her out to the point of running wildly, flapping her wings like crazy. Because I raised her as a chick (and I handled her every day), she's not flighty around people. Buff was so flighty, I had to chase her through a pasture, barbed wire fencing, and thorny brush. I even climbed trees, so she had to go. You just have to know what your own flock needs to be happy. Ravyne wasn't as bad, I just had to make room in my flock, so I sold her too. Her poof wasn't as large as Buff or Labelle (GL) either, so she could see a lot better.

Good luck to you.
