Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of my Polish hens, Calypso, has recently gone a bit broody and even started making dinosaur like noises at the other hens when they get near her while she's on her nest. Is it normal for Polish hens to turn into velociraptors when they start laying eggs? ;) In all seriousness, the noise she made was enough of a surprise to me that I decided I'd leave all the hens alone until she was done. This breed continually makes me happy and keeps me amused.

When hens are hormonally broody the sweetest hen can turn "snotty" and that happens with our Silkies. They are sweet and compatible until the hormones kick in. My friend and I noticed that temporarily non-laying hens will get picked on by the other laying hens. Being broody or laying eggs seems to be a pecking order status symbol within a flock.

Hey just got two polish today? Im wondering about what color they will be? I think one is a white crested black. The other one is lighter more like gray with a white crest. What do you think?

Looks like yes you do have a white crested black and the grey coloured one could be a white crested blue. Once the feathers start coming in more you should be able to see better.

Lovely chicks you have there!

No problem hope you enjoy them! They are a lovely bird to keep i too just love them. Have 13 outside, 13 two week old chicks in the brooder in the house and another 15 eggs in the incubator on day 10. Just can't seem to stop myself with them :barnie

They are so friendly to the point of being pests sometimes. If these are your first polish I would recomend that you check the crests and eyes regular, because they get so big things easily get stuck!!
Enjoy them :frow

@polishmom1744 Wow! You've got great looking birds! Do you have any tips/suggestions for caring of the crests on the Polish? I'm just wondering if there's something I can do for my other 3 hens' crests to get them nice and big like the top hen in the pecking order has or if it's out of my control/help with how those feathers grow out.

My dad was trying to get me to trim them all back so the hens could see better, but I like how they look better with the crests all full and puffy. I'm not sure if this is good or bad for them? They don't have to worry about predators since their enclosure is made with ground and air predators in mind and I use verbal cues with them when I'm in there with them that seem to work really well so far. But I could understand how that might be limiting to them to have their crests in the way of seeing better. I guess maybe I'm still torn between trimming them all and letting them all grow out.

This was a bit rambly - sorry about that!
