Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Einstein went after my legs once when he was about 4 months old.  After that I wouldn't let him near me.  Spraying water on him whenever he got close made him keep his distance.  He's been good for the past 4 months.  He's not exactly friendly but he is respectful of my space.  He also avoids any other people who come into the yard.

I do worry about him this winter.  It gets down to -25 C at night for part of the winter.  I read that Polish are not cold weather birds.  I got him as a free mystery chick when I ordered my flock in February.  Grandson fell in love with him as only a 10 year old boy can love a skinny cockerel with blue legs and a bad hair day every day.  Einstein needs to learn to cuddle with the girls when it gets cold in January.

That's good you nipped the bad behaivour in the bud. Nothing worse than an aggressive roo. If you can keep him reasonably dry he should be fine. A good coop that's draft free but well ventilated in the eves and he should be fine. We don't have temps that low here but they are remarkably good at keeping warm. Hopefully the girls will take him under a wing!!

Polish do seem to be kid magnets. My son loves them and is often found sat out with them having full blown conversations :gig

Thanks for that I will. I have a bantam cockerel called Marylyn Manson (it was Monroe until we found out he too was a boy) I have 2 hens, not sure what kind they are and then a white runner duck called Jem and a Cayuga duck named ducky lol.

Love the names! I dont have ducks, I always think they are too messy. I have a friend who keeps a couple and she is always trying to get me to get some, she is a

Yes I'll get a photo of the girls tomorrow, these are the ducks, they have so much character funny as. I found the Cayuga as a ducking in the summer and got the runner to keep her company. But your friends right they are sooooo messy, I have to clean them out at least 2-3 times a week, and they free range during the day, but you should get some ha ha.

The last 2 eggs I've known that my polish laid are the 2 that went under my broody over labor day weekend. Has anyone else had their polish just quit laying eggs or is she hiding them from me?

I don't have Polish but our 2-yr-old Ameraucana only layed 3 eggs for us this year. The Silkies and Breda layed through our humid SoCal heatwaves in the 100's but the Ameraucana just panted in the heat, molting sporadically, and refused to lay any more. There are no hidden eggs as we always find the other's occasional hidden eggs and there are not that many places to hide nests in our little backyard. This has been a cruddy year for egg-laying in our SoCal heatwaves.

My Elvis got pooped by another Polish while he/she was eating....so I gave him a nice spa treatment on Sunday!
I'm not sure if Elvis is a girl or a boy...I'm leaning toward girl since she has female vocalization and no wattle.

Elvis might be a male I've heard that females have nice organized hair(feathers on the head ) while males have messed up feathers
