Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG I love Bowser! She is totally normal in my opinion (well, as normal as a Polish crested can get lol). Here are a couple pictures of mine. I hope you don't mind, but I love any chance to share pictures. :) They bob their heads back and forth so they can see. It's so fun to watch them.

It was hard to tell from Bowser's pics but from several website photos the Appenzell Brabanters had the black beard and crest and that's what Bowser looked like and I was asking what made them certain Bowser was not a Brabanter. Appenzell's have crests but their vision doesn't seem to be obscured like the Polish tophats and Bowser's vision didn't seem obscured. They're all adorable whatever they all are!!!

hmm... Could Bowser be part Appenzell Brabanters and part Polish Crested? Aren't mottled genes recessive to laced genes, correct me if I'm wrong - still learning lol.

My polish chicks wobble around like they're drunk with heads low to the ground because they're constantly bobbing their heads to move crest feathers out of the way. I don't think they'd survive a second in the wild, so they get their very own fully enclosed coop/run. Instead of free ranging, we bring them fresh greens and the kids catch bugs for them. They do have to share with two silkies , but none of them minds.

Hey everyone! New to being a BYC owner and new to this thread! I have one silver laced Polish hen. About 8 weeks old. She's been doing great this whole time, then the other day when it rained pretty hard she got wet & her crown looked wet and thin. I figured once she dried it would fluff up again. It's been dry & sunny here these last few days but her crown still looks thinned out. She's been acting fine and the rest of her body looks good. I saw a thread about how some of the other chickens may be pecking at her crown feathers out of boredom or lack of protein. Using Blue Kote was a suggestion to deter the other hens from pecking her. I just wanted to see if anyone else had a similar situation? I tried to get some photos this evening but the lighting was bad and you can't really see what I'm talking about. I'll try again tomorrow afternoon.

Pretty common with the roosters. I don't have any hens old enough to tell yet but one of my boys have this problem. It's never been full again. It doesn't seem to bother him though and only one bantam hen pecks on occasion when they roost at night lol. :)

I had a sneaky Marans that would cozy up with one of my Silkies at night and cannibalize her feathers AND comb which the comb never grew back. At first we thought the Silkie was molting until we added a 2nd Silkie pullet to the flock and her feathers started to disappear and we KNEW she was too young to be molting! When the Marans outright attacked the Silkie pullet we had enough and just got rid of the bully.

THIS IS THE PARTRIDGE SILKIE THAT GOT CANNIBALIZED - POOR THING!

WE JUST THOUGHT SHE WAS MOLTING AT FIRST

THIS IS THE VICIOUS CUCKOO MARANS THAT DID ALL THE CANNIBALIZING AND KEPT PICKING FIGHTS WITH ALL THE LITTLES IN THE FLOCK. SHE WAS A BIG 7-LB HEN AND WE RE-HOMED HER INTO AN EGG-SELLER'S FLOCK WHERE SHE COULDN'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HENS THAT WERE BLACK COPPER MARANS, CUCKOO MARANS, OLIVE EGGERS, JAVA, ORPINGTON, ETC, BECAUSE THEY WERE AS BIG AS HER.

Here is my hen (or what I'm hoping is a hen) showing her crown thinning out. I checked her over and did not find any signs of lice/mites. No bugs crawling on her anyway. She is eating and being active like the others.
