Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pics
This is my almost year old Standard WCB roo " Roosifer".

on the right side of his head his topknot over laps his eye. i have cut the feathers to relieve some of the weight . has anyone else had this?

have you tried styling gel? mine are also uneven but sometims its just how they 'set' after getting wet or muddy.

Just an FYI note to those who thought the old Polish thread went down - There's a new one that's been going strong since then called "I have to talk POLISH" - That's where all the Polish chatter has been going on.

Silkie Sue - Crests flopping over to one side is actually an undesirable trait but not uncommon in hatchery stock. I've run across and do have a pet pullet with that issue, and, I cut her front feathers back so she can see better on that side. You can't do much to actually help relieve weight though.

thankyou for your replies.
i know what you guys are saying, but the problem for him is not the feathers covering his eyes. it is actually a " flap of skin" that has flopped over his eye. when i pull his crest back you can see how the skin folds on that side and the other side looks normal. weird huh

Hi Everyone,

I read through the entire thread and I haven't noticed any BEARDED WCB. Do WCBPolish come BEARDED? If so, does anyone have any leads on where I can acquire such a bird? Thanks.

While I'm on here I'd like an assessment from the "experts" (LoL) on Bowie, my SL Bearded Polish Roo that was picked up from Cackle Hatchery. He's 2 years old and has just gone through his second molt. I thought he was a decent pet-looking bird considering where he came from. I like that he has very little to no wattle and comb. Is his crest worth even using to breed with other crested birds? I'd like to acquire generously crested polish to my breeding program to top hat some non crested birds. Thanks in advance.

(above and below): 1+ year old, taken Jan 2011, notice the very small to non-existant wattles and comb

(below): 2 years old, taken JAN 2012, just finished a molt

(below): 2 years old taken JAN 2012, just finished a molt/finishing a molt

I think his crest has gotten bigger after the second molt (the last two pictures above)...

Standard size WC Blacks do not come in Bearded. you can get them in Bantam size or laced birds.
While your roo is definitely a handsome boy, he is not a real good representer of the laced breed. he should have all of his feathers black with the lacing on each. if you are just looking to make up some new breeds anyway, see what happens

I am so excited about my 2 new White Crested Black Polish. I'm desperately hoping for a pair. These are my absolute favorite! You can't stick your hand in their box without being climbed on and used as a perch. I think they are just using me to get higher but I'll take it! As soon as possible these 2 will get a leash and diaper and will be my "house" pets.

I just received 2 polish chicks, along with some others from McMurray hatchery yesterday. My little polish are so quirky already! This one is Tina (as in Turner) and the other is Polly (original right?) More pics coming soon, well... as soon as I can drag myself away from them long enough to upload the photos...

My Little Soldier Chicks. These Bearded Golden Laced Polish were hatched on Monday. They are so sweet. I think incubating them in a classroom of Toddlers has made them very calm. They are the babies of my own chickens so that makes them extra special. I don't think you can wing sex them. Too bad cause they would all be hens. . . Oh well.

Hi Everyone.
I'm a long-time member of BYC. I'm just new to this breed. For the past 4 years we bred Wade Jean's BC Marans and Jean Ribbeck's Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas and we had a flock of miscellaneous "pet" chickens. We sold the Ameraucanas and Marans here on BYC as day-olds and shipped them all over the US! My birds were my entire family's PASSION and we looked forward to every day with them. However, we live in a country subdivision...and you guys probably know the rest! Our direct neighbors were fine with the roostesr crowing. But someone W-A-Y down the road (each home owner has a minumum of 5 acres) complained aboout the noise and the HOA gave us 30 days to have the chickens off of our property. So, we sold EVERYTHING. Even the Dickey incubator!

My children were devestated, as they're young enough to not remember life without chickens! We tried to buy them rabbits to fill the void in their hearts, but we have not found the same joy in them unfortunately. (They just don't have the character that chickens do!)

So, I've been fighting the HOA and I THINK that if we join 4H and only get a small amount of FEMALE birds, they will approve it! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it and all I can think about is choosing my select few chickens! (We had over 100 at one time, so it is sooooo hard to decide on just a handful!) My daughter has a birthday coming up. She has always wanted a FRIZZLED polish chicken. I'd LOVE to surprise her with one but nobody here in my part of TX even knows what they are. If anyone can refer me to a breeder that is near the Houston area or willing to ship a started pullet for a very reasonable price, I would be forever grateful! ( I know it's a terribly tall order to fill. People used to ask us to sex our birds at birth all the time and I literally could not do it. Even vent sexing! It all looked the same to me! Ha! Ha!

So I know it might have to be a started bird or even a handful of day-olds if they have to be shipped) My daughter especially likes the cuckoo marked ones and the blue crested white ones. Thank you so much for your time!
**Below is a picture of my daughter broken-hearted that her "Chicken Little" had to move.
