Political Ramblings

The goal of certain political groups is not equal prosperity, but equal poverty. It is like a bucket of crabs. When one climbs up and is about to escape, the rest pull it back down. Those who cannot create must destroy.
No nation has ever bettered itself by bringing the rich down in order to bring the poor up. They tried that in the Jamestown colony where it saw certain and quick failure, but those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it.

I don't think it really matters how much a politician is worth. I think what matters more is where they get their wealth. Did they get their money doing respectable things or does it come from more shady things? I read an article maybe a year ago about the governor of Oregon, John Kitzhaber, was traveling around while he was governor giving speeches about legislation in the state known as the Oregon Health Plan. He would have meetings or give speeches and get paid for that while he was on the clock as governor.

Another article that made me shake my head was about the secret service following VP Biden to his home in Delaware. The secret service stayed in a cottage right next to the main house. Biden actually sent them a bill for staying in his house. Charging the secret service to stay on his property while he was home on vacation. Kind of ridiculous.
Very ridiculous. And, has anyone ever seen a broke politician? I personally have seen only one, and he was practically eaten alive by his family's bad debt come home to roost, but he was also a politician way-back-when...whoever hears of them now?

I sure hope no one pays that bill...they should just dock him to straighten it out for the time he blew while he was on the clock. It would happen to any person who does REAL work.

I personally don't think the "cliff" is that bad a thing. It may slow the economy for a time but in the end we will be much better off for it. Raising taxes and cutting spending is what is needed to cut the debt. And everyone will be paying a fair share if they want to cut some deductions then that's fine also. I think we should do away with a lot of deductions. Why do I have to pay more in taxes then someone else because they have more kids ?
Anyone who wants to pay more taxes is free do to so. Trust me, the government will not turn away your money. People voting to cause everyone ELSE'S taxes to be raised is why we have a problem here, as well as talking about cutting spending on so-called "entitlements" Medicare and Social Security, which have been paid into by people and should never have gone into the bottomless General Fund.

Let's see how people react to their first pay check in the new year. When the Bush tax cuts went into effect, I was doing payroll. I had all sorts of calls from employees wondering where that extra hundred dollars or so on their check came from. They believed that lie that the cuts were only for the wealthy.T

The cuts first went into effect in 2001, so a good portion of the current working class were not even in the work force then. I think they will be shocked.

Worse, health insurance premiums were pre taxed. That means that employees didn't pay taxes on those portions of their health insurance that they did pay. And most employees have no idea how much their employer pays for their contribution toward health insurance. If all health insurance payment become taxable income, people will see an additional six or seven hundred dollars of taxable income added to their pay stubs.

That will have the effect of pushing people who never really paid taxes into a taxable situation. I think they will squeal like a mashed cat.

There is nothing as pervasive and all enduring as a bad idea.

I sold a piece of property in 06 and my tax preparer told me that when the Republicans cut the capital gains tax they did me a huge favor, he said the same thing about the Bush tax cuts.

117 is going to create a lot of "criminals"...I don't know ANYONE who will submit to registering their guns.
