Political Ramblings

When people have to pay more in taxes than they get back in benefits, they pack up and leave. This creates a drain on capital and talent. Eventually, skilled trades people end up carrying the bulk of the tax burden. When you loose the plumbers, carpenters, doctors and dentist, x ray techs etc. society suffers. A nation cannot exist if it is composed of nothing more than social parasites.

Sounds like a lot of speculation. My bro lives in Norway where people pay a boatload in tax. They don't leave. When you value people rather than wealth, the tax you pay is less of an issue.

The more money they pay into the endless money pit we call the government, the less they will have to hire someone like me or you to do something for them, whether it's wash their car, clean their stalls or do their accounting for them. So yeah, I have a problem with that. Even if they go out to a restaurant, a decent one, that's a cook, waiter/tress, bus person, hostess and dishwasher that are all hired waiting for them to come spend money there. Take all these "wealthy" people away and put their money into taxes and see how many people will have jobs then. Service is already going to the dogs because people anticipate this is what is going to happen...if it does happen, it will be worse, and we have no way of accounting for their money once it is taken away in taxes.

In Norway the system works for everyone. Not just the so called disadvantaged. In Norway, people still work, they don't spend their lives laying around looking for a handout.

And Norway is about the size of washington state with less people, no real possibility of getting wealthy and the economy is merely a sloshing back and forth of money from one entity to another. Hardly an equal comparison to the land of opportunity.

Not to mention the bonus of the North Sea oilfields. Without that income, they would really be in a fix. Did you see where Statoil, the Norwegian national oil company bought Brigham Exploration for 4.4 Billion dollars just to get their foot into the shale plays?

I know they survive the same way Alaska does off natural resources. They also limit their population voluntarily to maintain a level of living.

But they represent 1% of the population. The things you are saying they spend money on would be a whole lot more helpful to the country as a whole if say, 50% of the population were doing it.

I guess for some, 80 years of living comfortably is preferable to the off chance that they might somehow break into "wealthy" status.

Again, the perspective is society as a whole, not the individual.
