Political Ramblings

No person living in poverty would ever think that it was "comfortable". To say that is not only an insult to any poor but, I believe it is an insult to all humanity. Do not blame helmet though. he is still parroting the talking points for the last republican presidential candidate. It is like a virus and will take some time to get over it.

Some people show how stupid they are by calling names.

So who has it better the one having a hard time paying their rent or the one with no home ?
The people who have a hard time paying the heating bill or the ones with no heat ?

Most of the people that are homeless in this country are so by choice.

When you can get $1,000 a mo. for staying home some people wont go get a job that starts at $1,000 a mo. Fact

If you add in the cost of commute, clothing, and taxes, that $1000 per month job is considerably less money. My commute costs previously were $100-$150 per month on public transit. Unless you already own clothing suitable for employment, that's a chunk of money you have to lay out. SS and federal taxes come out of that. Depending on your situation, possibly also union dues or other work fees.

Other small things that come with working - haircuts. shoes. your turn to bring treats for the meeting. having to pay for a meal because you're working late. and so on.

Working is not free.

Where do you get your facts? Are you counting the mentally ill as those who "choose" homelessness? I can see that you need to be informed, here's a factsheet that may give you an idea of the actual factors that lead to homelessness: http://homeless.samhsa.gov/ResourceFiles/hrc_factsheet.pdf

you are also incorrect about your assumptions that poor people prefer to not work and get "$1000 per month". Here's an article that if you take the time to carefully read and absorb, you will learn a lot about how people actually use welfare. http://www.urban.org/publications/900288.html

Also, have you ever lived (for a long time period) on $1000/per month or less? I have, it sucks, it's not comfortable and all you can think about wehn you are living on so little is how to get a job, get a better job, educate yourself, etc... And unfortunately if you make so little, you often have to work constantly and often have few resources, like transportation, etc. That makes getting a better job harder (as often travel is part of finding better work), and getting an education is also harder, especially if you don't live close to a school, or have kids or have to work multiple jobs... I mean,I think you are not really thinking realistically about the logistics and realities of what it is to live in poverty with limited resources.

Absolutely true. Because it is so comfortable. Oh, I didn't mean comfortable for homeless people. I meant for some to believe that.

From your link

• Over 80% have experienced lifetime alcohol and/or drug problems

And that's a choice.

Now that I think about it, I was once actually homeless for a little over a year. My home in Miami suffered a bit of damage from hurricane Andrew and I stayed in our corporate suite at the Waldorf and I must say that it was quite comfortable.
