poll: are you legal or an outlaw?

We're legal. When I asked my husband if we should check out the local ordinances and he laughed at me. We live in a rural area on a lake in Arkansas that unfortunately doesn't even have a leash law! Luckily our yard is completely fenced in, then my run is fenced in inside of that. My own dogs keep the neighbors dogs away from the fence.

Legal (so far

43 chickens, 17 under the legal limit for the size of my acreage

I didn't know there was flock size limitations. I would have just had the amount I wanted anyway, if it ended up being too many, then I would be illegal.
If they tried to enforce it they would have a fight on their hands.

No restrictions for Roosters. But I think if you had 40 Roosters the neighbors would hate you.

Sooo very illegal.

Not in my county and not in my subdivision. The fuzzy butts are in a garden shed and the run is along the side of our deck. I've got to plant more shrubbery to help conceal them from the street, right now you could see movement from the street but I doubt anyone could identify them. I've got 5 hens, one of which is a bantam and I really don't think the neighbors would identify her as a chicken.

Well now.....Thet there be a tough ole question here-abouts.........

We've got a PILE of "new-fangled" Dummies 'round here in Politics these days. They was "Dummies" as starters, BUT, once elected, they had to "impress the voters" with their "up-to-date" ordinances. (AND, thereby convince the 'thinking public' of their idiocy.)

So the nearby City (pop. = 20,000) adopted a "Humane Society" -type ordinance which they copied from Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Now, Santa Fe was a fine town years ago. But, it has become a "child" of Hollywood, CA; Berkeley, CA; and Boulder, Colo.("Berkeley East").

In a "vain" attempt to look progressive, our idiot County Commissioners approved the same ordinance that the City of Gallup has. (This for one of the largest Counties in the USA) (mostly rural and Indian Reservation)

So, TECHNICALLY, danged near everybody is in violation.

But, PRACTICALLY, there hain't no danged way they can enforce it.

So, I reckon I'm an outlaw. Hope I don't end up like that other New Mexico outlaw, Billy the Kid!!! He didn't git too far!

But in the immortal words of Rhett Butler in "Gone with the Wind":

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a ................"

My chickens are wanted hens and I'm a criminal....I'm sure I fall into some new category making me a terrorist as well since I produce a miniscule amount of my own food

I'm in an outlying suburb of Minneapolis on an acre of woods. The town is mostly farms, but they recently went from 10 pages of city ordinances to 150

Not to rant, but I'm generally fed up with Dr. Restricto. Our 0.84 acres is good enough for now, but the next move and from here on out will be to at LEAST 3 acres. I should be able to move a stack of firewood without my neighbors knowing about it!

I'm an outlaw. I called the county where I live and we are just about 50 square foot short of being able to have chickens. I have 4 hens and they are cooped in the back yard. I just make sure to give the neighbors some of those big yummy brown eggs!
