poll: are you legal or an outlaw?

Well let's see ...

1. Rural residential zone, poultry raising is allowed by the local zoning laws.

2. State law says the only folks who can decide what is allowed in a zone is the local jurisdiction.

So I guess this here Fox be legal as far as keeping chickens.

I live in a burb outside of Indianapolis-rural until recently. In the city of Indy you're allowed up to 6 chickens. Here, in Greenfield, chickens are illegal. I'm an outlaw.
The only reason my chickens came to the attention of animal control is because the pit bull next door tried to attack me-the owner said, "We all know WHY he was in your back yard, right?"
Seeing as he's tried to attack my daughter twice, I really don't think the chickens are what's drawing him over here. He's just an dangerous dog with an owner who does not take the safety of others seriously.
So-he keeps the dog. I have to get rid of my chickens.
I'm going to fight it.

The Town came out and told me I can't have chickens unless I have 5 acres...I have 2. This is country with horses right down the road...but they have 5+ acres. They are letting me slide for now. I will fight fight fight. This is upstate NY. We pay $4,200 is property taxes for NOTHING!

It is my understanding that I'm running outside the confines of the law. My local ordinance allows any amount of chickens (roosters or otherwise) as long as they are 100' from any adjoining property line...lets face it, not many folks have at least a 200' x200' lot they can put their chickens in the middle of that live inside city limits...soooo, I have a standing agreement with my neighbors, I keep hens only, and it is my understanding that a warning is ALWAYS given in my area and a week is allowed to correct code violations, so worse case, the evil zoning guy drives by, sees my hens and we have chicken noodle soup...I know, its harsh, but I'm not going to stop eating chicken just because I own a few!

I am 100% legal.

And-----

I got to add------

If'n I was illegal the last place I would disclose it is in a public internet forum.

THEY WALK AMONG USE!!!!!!

No I am not a conspiracy nut job, they just ain't no reason to hang all your bidness on the line.

We live in a rural zone, but we are part of a subdivision. I believe legal by county standards but probably not by subdivision ones. I haven't had the nerve to look. We have two acres.

I have had chickens, on and off all my life, but to tell you the truth.....I really don't know if I'm legal. I think I would have been told something by now; I'm 43 years old and had them when I was in 4H at 8 years of age, but who is to say? I guess I can ask my councilman sometime.
