totally legal! When I moved to this town a few months ago and called to find out if it was OK and legal in the town codes, the guy who called me back to talk about it was all pro-chicken, and not only told me it was OK but gave me advice on what to do with my neighbors and neighborhood group to get them on board. Nice to live in a progressive-friendly area! I went to all my neighbors to ask if they minded, and none did at all, several wanted to know how I could do that, and could they come see our chickens, and a couple parents thought that was really cool for the kids and they might want to try it too, etc. All positive! I LOVE Orange County NC!!!

Totally legal... and that's what I love about living in the country on five acres!! My chickens arrived today and I'm already in love.

A lot of the people I have talked to around here that are older love to sit and tell stories about how "eveyone" always used to have their own chickens in the "good ol days" even downtown, and they don't get why A) Anyone wouldn't want them for eggs and B)Anyone wouldn't want them older chickens for stew and C) Why everyone thinks its so darn good to go up to the grocery store when all it takes is a little less laziness to do it yourself!
