You know, I was thinking about it, and depending on the man I sometimes prefer makeup. To use someone people would recognize and maybe understand what I'm talking about . . . Eddie Izzard is a man I find downright ugly when he's in "man" mode, but in makeup and womens clothing he looks okay. For a less extreme example, my friend's husband wears mascara, which really makes his gorgeous eyes pop. Because of cultural stereotypes he's not about to admit that fact to everyone, so not very many people even realize he wears it. I doubt many people stop to wonder whether their mechanic is wearing makeup or not.

Haha! Here in Texas there's probably several people who'd give him a pamphlet on why he's going to heck and then go find themselves a more "manly" mechanic.
