Poll: How many chickens do you have?

8 total, mixed flock.

One cockerel (cochin bantam) and 7 pullets of various breeds (2 GLW, 2 Silver Spangled Hamburgs, 1 Gold Laced/Bearded Polish Bantam, Jersey Giant, Black Australorp)

We are hoping to move this year to a house with more acreage (3+ acres) so I can GET MOAR CHICKENS! You can never have too many.

How old is your roo? I am contemplating getting a straight run bantam (1) and if it is a boy I may break my own rule and try to keep him. Is he aggressive? If he were to be aggressive is he big enough to be dangerous or could you just sort of punt him?

My roo is almost 9 months old. He is not aggressive at all, he is very calm and docile and takes very good care of his hens. I had an OEGB rooster also, and he was a complete jerk, he would sneak up and try to attack/flog me all the time - he got taken by a hawk.

My boy Scuba though he is a little skittish has never shown any aggression towards us at all. He comes running when I call them and follows me around the yard . He is decent sized, but I don't think big enough to be dangerous - then again, every chicken is different. I would not have thought my tiny little OEGB roo would be dangerous, but it hurt like heck when he would flog me (he was about as big as a 6 pc chicken nuggets...lol)

I ALMOST satisfied my childhood "Fly Away Home" fantasies when I ended up with 3 orphaned Canada goslings on my property this past summer. Sadly, we have no pond and my husband convinced me to take them to the wildlife refuge. He said he didn't want to end up with an army of attack geese. But who wouldn't want that?!?!

Whelp, I suppose I will roll the dice! Maybe a bantam rooster is easier to rehome? hopefully? maybe not? I just don't know what to do if he is aggressive and I can't rehome. I would normally put him in the freezer, but it's not worth it for 2 chicken nuggets.

If Meyer had sexed bantams I wouldn't be in this mess - I get why they don't but I'm still annoyed.

I think most of the bantam breeds you'd be fine with if you got a rooster. OEGB's are known to be jerkfaces (aggressive a-holes) from what I read, so as long as you don't get one of those with a Napoleon complex like mine had, you should be ok
