Poll/ How Much Should I Sell Chicks For????

I think it depends on your area, and how many places nearby sell chicks. Here where I am only one feed store sells them and they are far and few between. They sell them for $3 each and so do I. The barred rocks I mean. Ameraucana chicks I PLAN on selling for $5, but the market will tell what I really wind up selling them for.

IF you have 20 chicks to sell.........

and you sell them ALL for $1.00 each........you have $20.00

OR you sell 10 of them for $2.00 each .......you have $20.00 ( AND 10 chicks to continue to feed.)

OR you sell 5 of them for $3.00 each........you have $15.00 ( and 15 chicks to feed...AND EAT later on..)

SUIT YOURSELF.....

I'm answering this with not being terribly familiar with your breed, but I'd take them to a swap meet...are the parents NPIP tested or have they done anything at shows? If so, I'd post a sign saying so...I'd only offer a discount if they buy more than 2. Yes, it is a lot of work, and if you have pedigree, show placings or other special designations or treatment, they are worth more than hatchery chicks. People have to be prepared to pay for quality, and to get what they pay for. Hatcheries are generally not the mecca of standard bred poultry and people will have to pay more to a private breeder if they want something nicer than the average. The money to run the incubator alone has to be justifiable by asking more for the birds.

It would depend on where you are.
I had to drive 5 hr's round trip to get CM's and then couldn't sell them for $5 ea. I paid $10. So then I traded for good stuff. I did manage to sell the rest for less. I was so mad I wanted to cull the lot. The same with Delawares. People in this area either don't want Delawares of CM's which I had a hard time finding or they are ignorant of how nice these birds lay and how rare they are in this area.
I just sold the CM roo at an auction and if I had a bigger pair I'd have chopped his head of and ate him raw. He was a big bird. Sorry I'm just getting worked up.

Anyhow get as much as you can.
If people want hatchery birds so be it.
I've got SLW's w/ single combs. Rd frz's with blk. , CM's that lay light eggs and clearly are crossed, and Dels that lay pink eggs., a runt Dom. from the hatchery. I say go ahead order from a hatchery you deserve what you get. Don't be surprised if it turns into a monster after dark and kills the cat. You never know what you get.
It will be a cold day before I order from a hatchery again.
