OK guys.
It is simple.
Should the breeder that worked hard to develop a strain of chickens give his/her name to that strain to identify where it comes from: which breeder?
We know it's done with Gamecocks.
Why not in others?
Especially when the breeder has developed something that no one has before them; is unique to the state, region, or country for that matter.

Like said before some will just use your name as a selling point for their birds after they've bred them into the ground.
Do you want your name attached to a line that started as yours but since went to hell?
When I showed many moons ago I didn't use my name but the show world was a small world and word got around who birds came from.
More then once I had someone buy my birds then show them. When they did good and others asked if they were from me the individuals would quickly deny it and claim they were their personal line and carried no blood from my birds.
I was a teen then and that was something I just couldn't wrap my head around as to why.
 
Up to the Breeder.

They can call the bird whatever they want - pragmatically, the question is only whether or not it helps sell the bird and "sticks" in the community consciousness. There aren't so many really exceptionally well known breeders out there whose name would be an immediate selling point, while other terms, like 'Freedom Ranger' have descriptive value in spreading knowledge of the breed, assisting in the proliferation of the bird.

I have no objection to it, I do question the value of it except as a matter of personal aggrandizement. But not my bird, not my right to control how its named. The birds I'm working on won't carry my name, my name adds no value to them (and I have ego aplenty without need for the recognition of others. Rather not see my name in wide use by others, who would likely pronounce it wrong, and spell it incorrectly as well)

There has to be some kind of honor in things. When I was breeding dogs I was always proud to let others know who's blood I was working with in my yard.

Could you tattoo every bird you produce and sell? That would set anyone straight if there were ever a question if you bred it.

That of course would mean no egg sales as you couldn't tattoo those. So maybe not the best idea.

Has to be a way around that though.

Tattoos are a good start.
 
'If you bred it youself and it is unique to all others, I think you can make a name for your strain. I wouldn't use your own name though...something abstact. You can't really do it, with anything but Game birds though. With standard birds like Rhode Island Red, It is what is, but you could call them RIR from so and so farm. Or Jolly's RIR...
