POLL TIME When did you start driving a car?

I learned to drive (My Daddy taught me) when I was 14. It was a 1967 Impala fast back, automatic transmission and power nothing.
The next year I learned standard in a VW beetle. I rather a standard. Most of my vehicles have been standards. DS learned to drive in a Triumph Spitfire, 4 on the floor.
That was a great little car.

I had a Triumph TR6 for awhile. I loved mine, too!

Ok, story time.

When I was 16 or 17 and my younger brother was 8 or 9 I had been taking him swimming everyday to one of the swimming holes. It was about 20 miles or so from our house, and we could get there on back roads so I would let him drive my car on the way back home.

So, this one day I decided to heck with it and told him to go straight through the middle of town on Main Street. We are almost out of town when I saw Chief Richey coming from the other direction about to meet us. I said Oh, **** there is Chief Richey! I was about to tell my brother to just act normal when I looked over and he had ducked down and just let go of the steering wheel. I reached over and grabbed the wheel and as we passed by the Chief he was looking at me a little confused so I just waved with my other hand as I sat on the passenger side of the car.

So, we passed on by him and I told my numbdutz brother that he was gone and to raise up and take to wheel. I asked him why he did that and he said I didn't want him to see me and I freaked out. So, when we got home I put him in a headlock and scobbed his knob and said don't do that again.

I few weeks go by and I am in a store when Chief Richey comes in and he says don't be driving from the passenger seat anymore. What? You think you a Mailman or something?
I said, Yes, Sir. No, Sir. Then he grabbed me in a headlock and scobbed my knob and said Ya'll be careful out there.

I know there is a lot of you out there.

My first car was a 1966 Mustang coupe with a 289 and 3 speed in the floor. The few pics I had of it have been lost.

the chevelle and porsche turbo were sold this year. the bronco is at our beach house, and the red vette is at our place down in florida.

the urus is my daily, and the white vette was a christmas gift for my wife. she wanted a fun toy.

How do you like that Urus?

I want to know when everyone started to learn from their parents.

Yeah, our Grandpa has taught our eight year old cousin how to drive, too. He needs a bit of help to reach the pedals.

And may I add, that I love driving, busy town, dust roads, dodging pot holes, the lot!
City traffic can be stressful, though.
