Morning! Has anyone had success with simple poly deer fence? We just need to fence off our garden this year as the chickens free range our entire 15 acres.
Photos and heights would be appreciated.
Thank you!

We needed a quick, inexpensive solution for the same reason and got this green pvc garden fencing:

(Not my garden, just a stock image)

It's not permanent and definitely not predator proof but it's easy to put up where you need it and fairly inexpensive as I recall. We got it at Home Depot. Works just fine for keeping the girls out of the garden.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. How high you need to make the fencing and how effective it will be depends somewhat on the breeds you have. Some breeds like Silkies don't fly and heavy breeds like Cochins and Orpingtons are very poor flyers so a 6 ft. fence will usually work well. Other light bodied breeds like Hamburgs and Anconas will probably fly over any fence you put up no matter how high. One option to prevent your flock from flying over the fence is to clip the flight feathers on one wing. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

Thanks! Clipping not a good option since they truly free range 15 acres and I don't want them more ground bound than they already are. We have lots of woods so that little bit of flight helps them evade predators and get up onto a branch from time to time.

You're welcome.

Hello!

Welcome to BYC and the coop! There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to join the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around BYC. I've never used it. But good luck with it.
