Pond ideas

I have a drainage ditch/ creek that has water in it 365 days a year and there is a part in the ditch that has eroded away. I want to dig more of the sides away and creat a large swimming area for some ducks and geese. What I dont want is for them to swim away or take off. Will this be an issue? Is there anyway I can make something to keep them in that area? How big does a night house have to be?

Maybe put some fencing on the ends so no flow through for them put the water still can hog panels any thing would work almost that has small holes and you can fit it to the sides of the ditch and top to bottom high enough they can't get over it when floating can do the same to the sides just open or leave one end open not sure....a night house I am assuming you mean just what it says....somewhere for them to stay at night away from predators....does not need to be very big I don't think I thought i heard 4sq feet for each chicken but I think this is when they are penned all the time.
