They were originally bred as water retrievers so its definitely in their nature. 2 of mine loved the water and the other 2 could take it or leave it. They are very smart and love affection. They also dont like being left alone very long and enjoy companionship, either from people or other animals.

That makes sense! I guess it probably depends on the individual. I've heard of some Labs that are scared of/hate water, not many but does happen, so probably depends on individual no matter the breed. They sound like nice dogs.

I have a toy poodle and he is a very good dog (I assume toys and standards are kind of similar since they're the same breed). He can be kind of cranky sometimes and will let you know when he doesn't like something, but a lot of that has to do with his age (he's 8 years old). I got another puppy just in June and he was a little snippy with him at first but he got used to him (again, probably his age and also never having another dog in the house). He doesn't love water but will swim in it. He loves to hike, we have a trail that goes through our state and when he knows that we are going he flips out. He's more calm now but was very energetic when he was younger. This may be an individual thing but he's kind of needy and will bug you for pets, but that's probably just because we spoil him. He's also kind of...what's the word...cautious? He does stuff delicately, if you know what I mean. He's very smart and fun to play with, and pretty easy to care for. I'm sure standards are slightly different though but I figured I might as well post lol

Awww yours sounds great!! I love that he loves hiking too cause I do plan on doing that too. And I am glad you posted. A poodle is a poodle! I love all poodles.

When sitting on the couch she MUST sit on you.. like not smush you but has to put her front half of body on you. They are affectionate and are not snippy or bossy at all.. but most of that has to do with your training and what you will or will not allow them to do.. and what I love is how they go with the flow.. as in, if you want to be left alone they are okay with that.. they are not demanding at all.. whereas every Lab we’ve had is VERY demanding!
And as for water.. we have a camp on the water but she has never tried to enter but our Boykin Spaniel CAN NOT stay out of it!! He will jump out of the boat.. she will ride in the boat and does love it but stays put. I think that they have pretty much just become pets and are really not used for hunting anymore so they don’t have that drive like hunting dogs do. Hunting does drive me NUTS:he... because they are NUTS!!

Awww she sounds awesome! And that's true, I have known a lot of hyper Labs. I do think a lot of that depends on the breeding; lots of backyard breeders since everyone wants a Lab or Golden (also why there is some aggression in the breed now) and they breed for money. But a lot are definitely crazy and hyper and ball obsessed lol and of course working lines are probably crazier than show lines, english labs are supposed to be calmer. But a lot are crazy energetic lol and pesky sometimes. My lab/pyrenees mix demands attention lol

I want to have her trained to visit nursing homes.. I think she would be great at it because people just love seeing giant fancy poodles and she LOVES all the attention! I may be getting my daughter a toy poodle and have her trained for that as well so that my daughter can bring hers too..

Aw i bet she'd be awesome at it and sounds cool

Love love love her!!! :love

Agreed

Sorry if I’m repeating myself.. I can’t remember what I’ve said where:duc

It's okay lol

So sorry :hugs He had the sweetest eyes. What a beautiful boy.

My next dog will be a standard poodle (my dream dog). My neighbor adopted one from a not so good person. He’s a wonderful, beautiful, sooo smart gentleman.
In my area you just can’t find standards for adoption. That tells you that once you have one you keep them. Rescue Groups will take your information but it’s like we’ll call you don’t call us.

Aw I hope you find one

Thanks....he was sweet

He seems it.

I have only had toy Poodles. They are so smart and loving.
Definitely momma's girls. They love my daughters and husband too but aren't really interested in people outside the family.
My favorite breed. I would love to get another puppy someday .

My mom doesn't really entirely like the poodle idea, she says they're hyper, and also that they're not like fancy enough (not the word she used but I can't think of it) doesn't really like the looks or something? For taking places. And "doesn't think they're the right dog for me"... I don't think she really knows enough about poodles lol also says she never bonded with the one we used to walk, idk, just doesn't like them for some reason. Idk. I don't think she knows enough about them or me. Looks are not important plus I think they're really cute and poodles are one of the fanciest dogs there is lol
