poop board

Welcome Momma of a chicken lover!

Superchemgirl: I thought of newspaper, thinking it might be easy to just roll up and toss in the compost! but we usually don't buy a paper, so im happy about not doing that! Also read on here about useing trays, but for now i'll try just scraping it into a bucket.

I experimented with a couple things on the poop board before deciding only poop went on the poop board.

Some people have luck with shavings. Me... not so much. My girls are into everything. They just fling the shavings right off the board digging for "treats" that could potentially be buried in there. They leave it alone if it's just poop and wood.

It does get kinda nasty, I'm on about 18 months with the present board and it needs a top changing like no ones business. I'll get my BF on it sometime in the next few weeks.

Our poop board is just plywood and I dusted it with DE, nothing else on it. Except now poop

Here are my poop boards. I added linoleum squares on the sheet of plywood for easy cleaning. They boards can be taken out for a good washing. I also have sand on the floor as my girls don't always face the correct position.

The roosts can also be removed for a good cleaning of the sand. In case you are wondering, there is indoor/outdoor carpet wrapped on the roosts. I had a couple girls with bumble foot and my vet suggested to wrap the roosts. Easy to clean as well.

Thank you. I am pretty sure they are happy girls. I liked the idea of making the coop look like a shed or playhouse if ever someday we move...easier to sell.

This is the left wall..Was a bit boring, at least for me. Still a work in progress.

Added the a/c this summer as it was over 110 most days here. Girls learned pretty quick to stay inside once it got too hot outside for them. The sand came in handy as they loved taking dust baths under the roosts.

Just looked at your page and love your coop. One day, if we ever move and get a bit more land, I would love to have something similar to yours. Our yard is too small for my dream coop.

If it is possible to use a deep litter in your coop, then you wouldn't need a poop board at all.

However, If that's not possible, I would suggest taking a look at WHERE the majority of the poop is falling and place your poop board accordingly.

Another idea is to use a plastic poop board or boot tray and spray it with a PAM spray to make clean up easier.

See what works best for your situation.
