Ok im busted LOL. We hung that bucket up on the wall thinking it was out of the reach of anybody. Then when we checked the girls that night we saw this one in the bucket. Every night after that , that same one was in the bucket. After about a week we remodeled the inside of the coop so we could have more roost space and have the roost up higher. We were having a problem with the girls sleeping in the boxes at night which was making a mess out of the boxes with all the poo in them. I still am surprised that she could get up to the bucket. I have been tempted to hang more buckets to see if the others would roost in them. I could be on to something here, all joking aside. Think of how easy it would be to maintain!!

I'd have to set my chicken latrine on the floor because my big butted buff orp and my silkies couldn't reach a hanging bucket.

Thank you. I am pretty sure they are happy girls. I liked the idea of making the coop look like a shed or playhouse if ever someday we move...easier to sell.

This is the left wall..Was a bit boring, at least for me. Still a work in progress.

Added the a/c this summer as it was over 110 most days here. Girls learned pretty quick to stay inside once it got too hot outside for them. The sand came in handy as they loved taking dust baths under the roosts.

Mama hen chris welcome aboard. You ask whatever you have to and you will get answers.Your question has brought ideas to me and I've had chickens bout 2 years.I want to learn.I don't use a poop board.I do deep liter.Few reasons are when you can get a covering on the floor in the winter it helps with keeping in some heat.I use pine(not cedar)shavings and every day or so I take a broom or rake and mix it up.Keeps down oder, helps insulate floor, helps make compost and also adds padding on the floor so that when they jump around it cushions their feet and legs. add fresh shavings from time to time.I do scrape the ladder getting to the roost. My feed stays inside all the time because of weather and other creatures.Water outside summer, inside winter. If you have good ventalation and put alittle time in your coop and chickens it's not alot of work.I don't use newspaper because of a moisture situation. You need to clean more to keep the wet paper out and inside of coop dry.I don't heat nor a/c.They don't need it and it costs more money. If you can affordd it I guess it's ok.I let them run and enjoy the outside as much as they can.If they get use to these things and power goes out the chickens will suffer more in the long run. These are some of the things that I do and it works for me.It may not work for you.You will have to pick and choose as you go.1 more thing on the a/c.If the filters are not changed regularly you will have to replace the unit.Chickens are very dusty.Good Luck to you and DO NOT BE AFRAID to ask questions:caf:love:frow
