Poop boards

Do you you compost the PDZ poop?
I love the stuff also!
I think your question is more "Can I use Zeolite in my garden"? Zeolite is essentially processed lava rock and as such does not break down in a compost situation. However, it is used as a soil amendment paricularly for use in heavy soils like clay. It contains some 50 minerals including potassium.

Bottom line is you can use it in your garden without issue,

Ah aart I can't slip anything by you! Most of what I know comes from research on the net and at times I may mis-state. The reference actually said "elements" not "minerals", I am not sure there is a difference but...

"Zeolites are minerals derived from volcanic origin in and consisting of about 50 elements. It contains an array of basic minerals that were spewed back to the earth’s surface in a volcanic eruption, such as silicon, aluminum and other metals. Over millions of years, hot springs leached the calcium, sodium and other contaminants out leaving this unique material."

I will leave it to readers to decide.

This is what I use to scoop my poop boards every morning. I use PDZ. This baby works wonderfully and I highly recommend it. I’m on my second one in 8 years.

I use a product called Stall Dry, which dries out the poo, some use a similar product called Sweet PDZ, some use sand or a mix of sand and Stall Dry or Sweet PDZ. I don’t think it matters what sand, but I don’t use any sand.

I haven't tried to poop boards as of yet. And I'm wondering if that's just defeating the purpose of the sand on the floor of your coop? If it's easier to scoop out of the sand like a kitty litter box, why would you want to scrape it off the boards as well?

For my situation, I have pine shavings in the floor of my coop. I have “Stall Dry” on my poop boards. That’s what I scoop daily to keep the coop clean. They are not in the coop much during the day, so the shavings on the floor stay much cleaner using the poop board.

For one thing, the poop boards are raised so can be scooped without bending down to the floor.

Homemade tarps. I used string reinforced polyethylene sheeting, banner seaming tape and snaps. Secured to all vertical uprights with ripped down deck boards screwed through it to pin it down.

Where do you get these ? Are they expensive?
I am looking for something that will withstand time and the reinforced sheets are better but can't find it locally. I've been burned buying online :(

BTW I'm a daily scooper of the poopboard with PDZ. Course under 8 hens you could get away with not every day. But honestly if your in there, it only takes a few seconds, just do it. Saves them from stepping on it and spreading to the roost.... I hate scraping off the roost itself.
It's a $1 off at TSC right now.
