Poop boards

I use the plastic trays that are available at the feed stores, clean them every couple of days and easy to wash as well if need be

Much better.
I can't NOT clean the boards daily. Whoever thought you could get addicted to scooping poop.
I clean my poop board every single day too. (It's a 12 inch wide board we covered with sheet vinyl and is removable) I just remove scrape into my 'coop cleaning' plastic bucket, sponge down from the bucket of warm, soapy water and replace. We do have sand on the floor of the coop and in the run, and clean that every day as well with kitty litter scoop. We LOVE it and it's always clean. It doesn't take me long at all. (LOL, in winter sometimes I do have to whack at the frozen poop!) I then empty out my 'cleaning' bucket.

FWIW Using PDZ on the poop boards eliminates the chisel/hammer requirement although there is a minimal depth that is required in order to eliminate "poop lock down"; about 1/2" is what I find is necessary. Less that that most waste is easily picked up but anything watery will go into lock down. Even then I am usually able to get it off with a metal scarper.

I have 25 birds and find that I need to add a bag every 6-8 weeks.
What is PDZ?

Basically: zeolite. It's a naturally occurring mineral that absorbs odors and moisture.
Only buy the granular form. The powder form is far too dusty.
I get it in 40# bags.

I buy it from Tractor Supply in the 25# bag, usually ~$10/bag. Trade name is "Sweet PDZ" and is marketed there as a Stall Refresher for horse.

There is a version for chickens I have just never seen it.

Is that Canadian dollars or American?

I get the 40# bags at Agway for $15.99 a bag. It comes out to 0.43/pound vs 0.47/pound and the Agway is less than 2 miles from where I work.

My poop board is a 4x4 sandbox that I keep two inches of
plain sand inside, It's easy to scoop every day with a kitty
litter scoop. Takes about 10 minutes. I store the poop in 10
gallon buckets that I get free from a local restaurant. It composts
by itself inside the bucket, ready for my watermelon patches in
the spring. Fertilizer prices have gone through the roof. I'm so
glad I have chickens and that they poop all night long.

@DobieLover American $, I often see it at one dollar off.

The CDN-American border has been closed for months now. It is a 200km drive for me to Ogdensburg NY so I buy whatever is in the store at the time (usually four bags). I am down to my last two bags, not certain what I will do when they are gone as I do not expect the border to open anytime soon.
