Poop Boards

Horse Fresh by Standlee
Hadn't heard of this before, more expensive than Sweet PDZ.

I use straight PDZ, <1/4" deep, sift it all daily.

Here's some posts about it, they're kind of old, but changes are noted.
...and the threads these posts are in has a ton of examples of poop boards.

What do you do with the scooped poop?
Compost pile. It's "hot," ie, a good source of potent nitrogen, so don't put it directly on the garden until it breaks down. That can take 6-10 months, for cold composting, or just a few weeks with a hot method. Since it has so much nitrogen, it can compost a lot of carbon, which for me is lots and lots of leaves.

Thanks! That’s good info. Do you happen to know the ratio of carbon to nitrogen?

The "ideal" is 30:1, carbon to nitrogen. Which means it won't take too much poop to break down leaves, pine shavings, etc.

BUT! it can go very slowly, if just left in a pile. Look up this:

The caveat is it's a lot more physical labor. You need to turn the pile about every other day. One extra benefit, though, is the arm muscles you get doing this!

Thank you! Not to be dense … but referring to “pile,” you mean the coop bedding, correct? :)
