Poop boards?

Can someone explain the best way to do this (with pictures ideally)?

We're building our coop and trying to figure it out. We have 4 chickens and the roosting area won't be huge. We were considering putting an oil pan (from the car supply store) underneath the roosts on a little drawer that slides out (we have something similar for our guinea pig hutch). Do you line it with sand or or something? Does this sound like a good idea? We're totally new to chickens and have no experience.

I'm sure some people put something like sand on them. I know some people use something with a smooth surface and just scrape the poop off, then maybe hose it off and let it dry.
