Poop!!!

We had up to 7 free ranging in our yard, it was too much after some time. Even though we had accommodated all the places they tend to hang out with sand pits below them... still smack in front of the front door on the porch with big poops is just awful.

So now we only have 2 that are loose, and I keep them off the porch with a broom... it took a few days but they get the picture. Now they only come up here in the worst of rainy weather.

So what did we do about the yard, well... we STRAW it! Yup.. just layer on the straw in the winter time every week or two... keep piling it up.. makes for a great lawn in the springtime, as it breaks down all winter and then mow it over in the spring.

And yes, now I too am the proud owner of backyard boots!

I have a roofed run that is easy to clean. Every couple of days I go out with them and use a paint scraper to scoop up any poops that are fouling the area. We also installed snow boards for winter. Makes a huge difference in your property to give them a designated run, and it's safer because you can predator-proof it.

We get an absolute kick out of our chickens on the deck watching us through the slider but hate their "aftermath". we will be sectioning off an area for them to free range and poop in even though they'll be able to fly over it if they want. i spent too much time and $$$ to let them trash my flower beds again like last year! i thought it was funny at first but then it turned to heartbreak. they have branched out on their free ranging so has the poop!! near the pool not a good thing!! there has to be a people place and a chicken place!

Same here. I really don't mind washing off the deck but everytime I let them out they go right for my hydrangea beds and tear them up.​
