I got in an order 3 days ago from a hatchery of a mix of comet, RIR, white rocks 22 in all and in the past I have had a few chicks get poopy rears, but this bunch there has been about a dozen. They have a mix of some leftover medicated feed from last spring and fresh non medicated grower I just bought. Of course fresh water and they are on papertowels for a few more days. Could it just be the chicks digestion is getting use to solid food ? All is well?

I am wondering if it is the feed left over from last year. I think that I would just throw it out as it's probably past it's expiration date and maybe has gone rancid.

possible that it may be expired, do not have the original 50lbs sac, but it was kept in a sealed plastic storage tub to keep clean. Could it be maturing digestive system?

Unless you kept it in a freezer then it is probably rancid. Even whole wheat flour or ground corn meal will go bad if not kept in refrigerator or freezer if you will not be using it up within a short time.
