Hi all. I have lost two ducks in the last six months or so to unrelated issues. First was a runner who became VERY ill and lethargic and weak. We are unsure of her cause of death. Second was a pekin who had a catastrophic prolapse.

Now I have a swedish who has appeared to injure her leg. Visual appearance of leg is normal but it seems to be slightly swollen. No bumblefoot or visible wounds. She started limping yesterday and by the end of the day was unable to place any weight on it -- she uses her wings to drag herself around. While swimming she does move the leg slightly. Eating and drinking as normal. We are giving her metacam for pain and allowing her to rest.

Any other ideas and what we should be looking out for to make sure this isn't a sign of something more catastrophic than an injury? Any other treatment?

Video showing leg movement in water -- left leg is injured, seen at end of clip when she turns around.

This video shows her standing while balance on one leg. She is also doing this wing flapping motion which I am thinking is allowing her to balance or is because she is in pain?

Final video shows her using her wing to stabilize herself as she falls! I did not want to stress her out too much but wanted to record a bit to show. She really has a complete inability to walk on the leg.

Calling @Miss Lydia and @Amiga for ideas !!

Could she have jumped off the side of the pool and injured her leg? Do you have any drakes? What your doing is about all you can do give her rest and time leg injuries can take a while to heal.

Very sorry for the loss of your other 2 ducks.

She definitely could have done any number of things to injure herself -- from the pool, from the little steps into their coop. No drakes! I just REALLY want to make sure this is "just" an injury and not a sign of an illness or something horrible! As you can see in the videos of her splashing around in the pool and so on, she really does seem normal other than the leg.

Yes she looks very healthy. Hopefully she just tripped, I have seen mine trip over things and hold my breath they didn't injure themselves. With rest and Metacam hopefully you'll begin to see improvement pretty soon, and water therapy is great as long as she doesn't have to jump in and out. Only other thing would be of course a vet visit.

Good to see you here on BYC been a while :)

Where would you know to splint? If you can pin point where the injury you might could use something like vet wrap like an ace bandage for support of the leg

I'm not sure -- I am wondering if it is more her "hip" that is the sore area which is why it is so difficult for her to bare weight. So in that case likely a spilt wouldn't do any good...
