Good morning! On Friday… So three days ago, I picked up six Indian runners from the local farm store. They are my first poultry!

Yesterday I was sure one of them was going to fail to thrive, because it isn’t growing nearly as much as its siblings. But because they change so much overnight I realized this morning, that it may just be a different breed? It’s always had a different coloring than the other ones, and it doesn’t walk around smoothly, it waddles much slower. Each day the difference becomes more apparent.

I apologize for the poor picture, but this was the best one I could get of them just after I cleaned out the brooder. I have them on ACV in the water at the moment and I’m on my way to tractor supply to get an electrolyte as well, just in case.

They get Purina Duck with added chick grit.

whacha think? Just a little runner? Or maybe an eggie mix up at the mass hatchery?

Beautiful cuties,, :love ,,,, BTW I don't have any duckies,,, so cant help you with Identifying the breed.
I also read this ;

and do have a view on this.
If you do give ACV,,,, do so just once per week. The other days, just provide clean water.
Electrolytes are generally used when birds are stressed out by SUMMER HEAT.
Just my opinions.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and :welcome

I’d lean towards a stowaway. He looks like his posture is not as upright as the runners, so he’s probably another breed. My one order from Metzer Farms accidentally(?) sent me a Silver Appleyard instead of a Saxony, so yeah, it would be well within the realm of possibility.

If you are worried about nutrition, double check the formula for the duck feed you’re using. Young ducks require a different balance of nutrients than adults, so most likely they’ll need a little more niacin and maybe protein. Adding brewers yeast might be not be a bad idea to make sure they get their niacin.

If your feeding Duck starter you probably don’t need anything extra, but sometimes even when we give feed formulated for our water fowl we’ll get one that needs extra for what ever reason. I’d rec. having some Nutritional yeast on hand just in case you begin to see shaky legs. It’s very easy to add to their feed by just sprinkling over. 1 Tab per cup of feed. Only time you need to add grit is when you begin offering anything other than their starter.
