Poor little Chick lost the Battle

well, the little chick whichwas very sick and intaking air in its crop has died. i tryed everything i could, from electrolyts, calcium powder, garlic, antibiotics, anti fungal powder, worming treatment, lice treatment. no matter how hard i tryed no matter how late i stayed up with the little guy, i was not rewarded. the chick lasted 5 days with sticky eyes and lethargic status. he kept having a yelow discharge in the mouth and was constantly gasping.
i should have put him down but i wanted him to live he is my first and only arucana chick. i feel so guilty and i have no one to talk to. i tryed so hard to save him but he still died. it hurts alot when a new member of your flock breks your heart like this.
mabe it was foul pox that killed this and my other chick both same syptoms.
my heart goes out to other dedicated chicken owners who have had these devistating things hapen to a wonderful pet.

I am very sorry for the loss of your little chickie. Grieve for the baby, but don't feel bad about your efforts. You did everything you could.

thankyou, its very hard to accept that saving it was useless. now i can oly hope that the last chick wich is a cross breed of its mum will not fall ill as well. they were in together and it has a sticky eye too. im prety stressed to the max now because the chick, its looking for its dead sibling. and i cant tell it that he or she is gone. all i can offer it is a feather duster and warmth. thanks again for replying its nice to know people care and your single kind words heal alot of hurt.

Maybe someone at BYC who knows more about chickens than I do (I'm very new), can tell you how to treat the remaining chick. If it has symptoms, maybe there is an early intervention you can try.

It sucks to try so hard and have them go anyways...but we've all been through it at one time or another.

You mentioned fowl pox as a possible disease that took your chick… I haven't had but one person reply to my own post about my hen with black spots on the comb/wattles, and I think that's what's causing the spots. Were there any blistery spots on your chick around the featherless areas, as well as the discharge from her eyes or mouth? I don't know much about this except what I googled last night when I didn't get replies on the forum, but it seems there is nothing that can kick the virus.

I'm sorry you lost your chick, and you obviously cared very much to have tried so hard to save her.
