Our poor Lazy Chook, who is usually sprightly, is very ill.

The other two in our henhouse seem fine. They freerange through our fenced yard.

While she still runs with the rest of the flock around the yard, Lazy has a deflated comb, feathers plucked out of her tail, her top of her head looks like she has grey hair, has white dots on her, has diarrhoea, moves slowly and lethargically and tucks her head into her chest, closes her eyes a lot and tonight is sleeping in the box and not on the roost. I think she has lost weight. She also seems to have a runny discharge on her beak. We neemdusted her this arvo which we do every quarter or so. She has stopped laying recently.
What can we do to ease her suffering?

She is 3.5 years old.
Thank you all

Hi

Welcome To BYC

Can you post some photos?
Is she eating/drinking?
Is her crop emptying overnight?

It's hard to know what's going on there. Can you take her to a vet?

Separate her or cage her in the run so you can monitor her food/water intake and she can rest. Offer her some poultry vitamins and a some extra protein like egg or tuna in addition to her normal feed.

Without seeing it, "white dots" on the comb and runny discharge from the beak, make me think Wet Form of Fowl Pox or canker. Look inside her beak to see if there are an plaques/lesions.

Take a look at the links to see if this looks familiar:

Thank you so much for your reply - I am grateful. She is up today and eating and drinking and following the flock. I fear because of her age and that she is an ISA Brown that her days are numbered. She does seem to prefer sticking with her girlfriends. She does not have the pox or sores in your examples but thanks.i think she is a gorgeous old gal who has slowed down at last and we will be giving her cuddles and love to let her know she is appreciated.

Thank you so much.
