Poor Little Silkie

You'll just have to keep an eye on them. Once I figured out she was going broody, and that that was the cause of the bullying, I removed her for her own safety. If her and the chicks had been large fowl, I would have put them back with the flock after two weeks. We decided, since we want to keep a Silkie flock anyways, to make them their own area.

Not having a Roo with them, will not stop them from being broody...if that's what you were thinking. My Silkie went broody the second time, with no Roos around.

Thanks cause I was gonna separate him from the hens. That was my only silkie. All my other hens r bantams of different sizes but nothing fancy like my silkie was. Will my hens do this again to another one of my bantam hens if she starts to brood? I don't wanna find another dead hen like this.

You should seperate broody hens from the flock. It's safer for the hen, eggs and chicks. It also makes for easy supervision in case mom isn't a good mom.

Thanks everyone, will I be best keeping my silkie separated from the other chickens all the time now? I worry that she will get beaten up again if I put her back with the others, but also worry that she will be lonely and cold without them...

One of my Silkie's is broody right now, and she has been broody 2 other times in the past. My other chickens don't bother her, I guess it just depends on the chicken?
