So today we happily selected 4 chicks from the bantam bin at our local feed store. The problem is, Sugar, the tiniest chick I have ever seen, can't really walk. :-( Both legs are splayed out, and she tips over. Most of the time, she just sits and shivers with her eyes closed. I have forced her to drink, but I can't get her to have any interest in food. Is there any hope for this little bird?

This is very helpful! I think she has some curled toes as well, so I'm going to do the best I can to get her to good health. Poor thing can't be more than a day or two old, because she isn't much bigger than a ping pong ball!

Man, I can't get her to eat at ALL! We tried putting some food in with water in a syringe, and I think she might have gotten a few drops down. This chick is breaking my heart!!!

I am so sorry. If the little one won't eat then it is only a matter of time.

I hope she eats soon!

The same thing happened to my fist silky chick she could walk, actually she was like a normal chick for two weeks!then one day it just got sick and died all in 8 hours! It was so sad:(hope yours makes it!

:-( No. I fed the little thing watered down food every few hours from a dropper for 36 hours after she choked on a piece of food, but it was pretty clear she had a cleft pallet, because even the slightest drop of water came out her nose as bubbles. We also discovered that her chest was severly swollen, and a chicken friend told me it was a problem with her gullet. We got her Thursday morning, and she held on until Saturday afternoon. I was heartbroken to discover she had passed, and I cried off and on for most of the evening. I never knew I would feel this sad about a baby chick!

The rest are doing great! We knew there had to be a reason this chick was so tiny, but we were rooting for him/her to pull through all the way to the end. I just love underdogs, er, chicks! :-) Thanks for asking, too. My husband thought I was a bit loopy to be so upset about a bird.
