Poorly Bantam??? Or just broody??

What size tube and syringe would i need for her, do you know?

I've searched but I'm not really finding anything i can understand.

Sorry. X
I wish she'd make up her mind!!!
She's stuffing her face now.... Can't seem to get enough! Lol
Silly bird

Well that is good--maybe she finally got hungry. I hope she keeps it up.

As far as feeding tube sizes, a red rubber catheter feeding tube or infant sized plastic tube 8 french would be about right for a bantam. There are 2 types of tips on large syringes, a catheter tipped for red rubber catheters, and a regular tip syringe that fits needles and those air tubing lines I spoke of. The air tubing for aquariums has to be softened on one end with a lighter so that it is not too sharp for putting it in the throat. Most feed store may carry both catheter tipped in 60 ml size and regular tipped in 35 ml size.

Hi all

Just a little update.

Betty is still with us, but still very weak.

She's eating...but mainly only treats :-(
Still giving egg and soggy bread...but she's not so interested any more.
Trying a little turmeric tea aswell.

Im getting her to drink myself.

But her neck just does not want to straighten. It sometimes ends up in her foot holes, the silly thing!

Not sure what i should do really.
Will persevere for another week or 2.

I've put her outside a few times while the weather has been dry and a little warmer.
Her guard chicken, stoopid, came over for a chat a couple of times...but went when betty got her head stuck in her foot holes! Lol

Thanks everyone x

She's gone

I could've done a lot more for her.

Thanks everyone x

I'm so sorry to hear you lost her. It's never easy but particularly heart breaking when you have spent so much time caring for them on a 1:1 basis.

There is always the possibility that something more could have been done but it may also have put her through a lot more distress without any gain. We all do our best and learn along the way in the hope that, next time, our best might be better.

She is no longer suffering and that is what you need to take comfort in.

Will you send her for a necropsy to establish a definitive cause of death.... always useful in case there is a next time or your management system needs to be changed in order to prevent other chickens suffering the same fate.
