Hi all. I have a 10 week old pullet that is suddenly appearing hunched up and not as active as her siblings. She sits and closes her eyes. She will still look around and peck at things, but I don't know if she's eating much. There seems to be no respiratory symptoms. I picked her up but didn't know what to feel for. Her butt looks fine.

Should I separate her or bring her inside? Noone is picking on her yet.

Thanks for any advice.

Get some Corid (amprollium) from the cattle medicine aisle of your feed store to treat her (and the others) for possible coccidiosis. If they don't have that, get Sulmet or sulfadimethoxine. Dosage is 2 tsp. of the Corid liquid, or 1.5 tsp of the powder per gallon of water for 5-7 days. If she is not drinking, you will want to give her some with a dropper. Don't separate her since they will all need treated. Have you seen any blood in their droppings? Here is an article to read: http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/12/coccidiosis-what-backyard-chicken.html

Thanks. I had treated them with corid for the past few weeks. Poops have been looking healthy. I just stopped treatment before this pullet started appearing unwell. Do you still think that it is coccidosis?

Corid is meant to be used for 5-7 days for an active infection or outbreak. As a preventative, it can be used at a lower 1/3 dose every 3 weeks. I can't tell you if it is cocci or not. I would ask my regular vet to please look at a stool sample for cocci, and go from there.
