My coop will have a access door from the run for cleaning, ECT. Thinking of installing the pop door in the access door. Can't think of any reason this wouldn't be okay? Would free up some wall space.

With buff orps and later on some RIR's, what size pop door will I need? If i have a board, say 4" tall, to keep my bedding inside the coop, does my opening need to be measured from the top of that board, or the actual floor?

Large breeds need to be able to pass through the opening without squeezing. I have both Cochins and Brahmas, also roosters that are large in themselves. My pop holes are eleven inches high from the top of the threshold to the top of the opening. My larger chickens all seem quite comfortable with that. The width is ten inches.

Thanks for clarifying what opening I need.

Are you planning on installing an auto door? If so that might be an issue cut into the human door, depending on how it worked.

My pop door is probably about 11" square though I haven't measured it (the carpenter just cut the opening to match the physical door). It's off floor level about 4, maybe 5" (since mine is in a wall, it had to clear the bottom part of the wood frame of the wall). I have no issues with coop litter falling out.

My guilitoine pop door is only 9"x12" and can accommodate a Delaware Rooster and large Muscovy Drake.
