Hello. I've been lurking for a few days since finding this site and decided I'd need to register sooner or later. I'm at the beginning of the beginning, absorbing the info, refusing to re-invent the wheel if I can get away with it.

But I do have one question. Is there a primer of sorts that could help tie the pieces together? I've looked for a "Start here" kind of thread, but no joy. Granted, I tend to be a bit ADD on the internet when it comes to reading, but nothing stood out to me.

Looking forward to learning a lot.

When you are just beginning to learn about raising chickens it's hard to know where to start. Do you want to raise your own chicks? For meat, for eggs? Do you have a brooder, and coop for when they are older? I would suggest getting one or two books on raising chickens. The library is full of them but you might want one for reference. Then post questions under heading about breeds, etc.
Good luck! Don't get overwhelmed! One step at a time and..............

Go up to the blue bar below the backyard chicken forum banner, check out all of those titles up there. 'Index' is a good place to start. Click on the different options and just start reading. I suggest 'rules' first, because that will give you a lot of useful information for navigation. Then 'coops and runs', then 'recipes'-for incentive, then 'diseases and emergencies' for reality.
I have really enjoy my chickens. It has changed my life. I bake more, cook more, sell eggs so I meet more people, and spend way too much time on BYC. One day I will wean myself. really. maybe. if I can.
Welcome to BYC!
