Hi,The best way I have found to keep the odor down, id to use pine shavings, and keep the pen as dry as possible! I covered my run, and it has helped, no swimming water in the run either! I clean it after a few times of adding dry litter! Once a month, but keeping it dry from the weather has helped the most!

I've got a question along the same line for those of you who use the poop in your garden. Doesn't it smell up the compost heap?

Adding lime to speed down the decomposition might help. Another idea might be to mix it with a lot of water and use it as a natural fertilizer. It's supposed to be the best!

thats what started it all! My garden is on the side of my garage in my extra lot for all to see! everyone started stopping by to ask what i was using to get everything so big and green!
I use the deep litter method in my coop. My cousin owns a tree service so i get very fine shavings from him. At the end of the summer i completly empty the coop and till the contents into my garden! my watermelons were on steroids last year!

It costs us $50 a month to have Waste Management remove our horse and chicken poo. All they do is take it to the landfill and use it as free energy, and what they don't use, they package and sell to Home Depot!!!

So, I put an ad on Craig's List- Free Horse and Chicken Manure. We have a tractor that can easily scoop it into the back of a pickup.
I have FOUR people (my uncle, Shelly aka Backyard Buddies, and two people in town) that take the manure from me. No more $50 a month to the trash company!

So, my point is if you have a ton of it, why not put an ad on Craig's List to sell it? Heck, even if you only get $5, that's $5!

* Actually, I liked my bunnie's muck much better--- sweeter smelling and much less chance of burning plants, but the changes in my yard here since having JUST 1 CHICKEN have been phenomenal.
