Porcelain d Uccle Went blind!

yes, maybe put her in a separete flock if she gets pecked on, or give her a couple chicks and make her coop/run smaller so there is less chance of getting lost or who knows and it is important to keep her food and water where it was before so she kind of knows where it is. Help her along if she cant find her food and water . defintetly ground perches

Hi there! I'm sorry I'm late and what's happening to your girl but she does not have to be put down. Earlier this year my 100% blind chicken Hellen passed away but I have 3 years of experience of rasing a blind chicken. I'm not sure the orginal reason she lost her sight but when she was a young pullet just beforing laying age and we put them with the older girls we notticed that something was really wrong. Turns out she was blind and we have no idea what caused it. Some sort of illness I suppose. Hellen ended up living a very happy life btw. We seperated her out and gave her a friend who turned out to be a bully so she ended up living in solitude until we had a chick but the chick grew up to bully her. Everyone one just wanted her to be at the bottom of the pecking order. At the time we lived in a preditor free place so her is how her set up was: A pen very seperate from the others, a large outside dog house, and food and water kept in the same place and always full and clean. She was moved to her own seperate space in the winter. When we moved she had a similar set up inthe large coop with plenty of outside time. she also got 6 guine friends. They harassed all the other chickens but they loved her. Some people might argue that hellen was lonely living alone but she had me for hours on the daily. So basically I'm just trying to convice you that there is hope for a very happy life.

sorry for misspelling. Also I can add you to the blind chicken thread. I'll be off for about an hour but I will talk more once I get back.

This is what happened when we gave mine chicks, when we first got them, and today.

Hi, thanks for tagging me. Is she still sick? When she gets better, if not already, she can Probobly live a pretty noreal life, ground perches, make sure she know where the food and water is. If the other chickens start to pick on her, I'd get her a chick or two to keep her company. She might need a separate flock. I've also found my leghorn, who is quite dominate to be a good friend of Amber, my blind hen. Hope she gets better.
Yes she’s still sick, if she knows where the food and water are. Do you think she’ll eat and drink? She has a companion and a rooster that are fond of her. Would they help her?

In the last picture her eye seems to have crusty drainage around it—is that what you see in person? Are there bubbles or drainage in the eyes? What is the air circulation like in her coop? Sorry that she seems to be blind. What have you done to treat her eyes? I would clean them with saline eye wash and apply a dab of Terramycin eye ointment or plain Neosporin to each eye twice a day. Cataracts can be common, but if she has eye drainage, it may be more of an infection or ammonia fumes.
